Fans were not okay when Jelly Roll didn’t attend the 2024 People’s Choice Awards.
The annual awards show—hosted by Shania Twain—featured some of the biggest names in country music, but Jelly wasn’t in attendance, despite seven nominations and one win. (For a closer look at all the winners, head on over here).
However, Jelly was busy on the road as a part of his Beautifully Broken tour, performing on Sept. 26 in Boston, Massachusetts, before heading to New York for the next stop.
Despite his absence, Jelly got a special shoutout from his friend and collaborator Machine Gun Kelly after the duo picked up the Crossover Song Award for their track “The Lonely Road.”
“We went from 10 years ago hating each other to elevating each other,” MGK said during his acceptance speech. “Comparison is the thief of joy. There is enough room on the couch for everybody. We found camaraderie in the chaos.”
The two former rappers have a long history together, previously feuding in their early years.
“We were kind of automatically forced against each other anyways,” Jelly Roll explained during the Spotify podcast Jelly Roll: Countdown to Beautifully Broken on Sept. 13, with MGK agreeing, saying, “For sure. You were bred to hate each other."
The “I Am Not Okay” singer joked that MGK’s looks may have played a part in their feud, adding, "You were just skinny and handsome. I was just a hater. You know what I'm saying? I was just a hater, dude!”
However, they’ve put their differences behind them, and Jelly recently showed MGK his tour setup during the Spotify podcast.
“I want this tour to not only be the biggest tour of my life,” Jelly said of the Beautifully Broken tour. “I want to come out of it healthier than I’ve been in a long time—mentally, spiritually, physically, emotionally. I want to leave some transgressions on this tour, baby.”
